FreeBird

New Year's Resolution : Fly like a Bird!!!

Acrylic paint and crackle medium, FontWerks stamp, Maya Road chipboard bird, EK Success Bookworks stickers.

8 of diamonds.

(Mad - I think I like the crackle medium better than the Tim Holtz crackle paint, but I guess its dependent on just how much crackle you'd like. I let the crackle medium dry most of the way for this, less on that other goddess piece I did for you a couple of years ago. That goddess piece had a ton more crackle.)

Scary Cute

I can never decide whether or not the Geico Gekko is scary or cute. Seeing it larger than life up on the JUMBOTRON at the Sharks games (that's ice hockey to the uninitiated!) is very disconcerting. Of course, if you see/hear the commercial, the English accent is truly charming! Or maybe its the big baby creature eyes that hook us in.

The path of the inspiration...I got the Geico ad in the paper, thot about doing a daily card with the picture, and then heard the Geico commercial targeted at Californians. The gekko sez we get lower rates and then "next thing you know it'll start raining gumdrops." One can dream...

Gesso, lime and medium green acrylic paint, punched snowflakes, American Typewriter font. (Thanks Christina Clouse for the text editing tips!) Jack of spades.

Oh Deer!

Deer or Moose?! I like to think of him as a reindeer! Mad and I got a boxful of these cute felt fellas at Borders bookstore, in that section that sells all the cards and gw and embellies. The background paper is Queen & Co., punched snowflakes, red acrylic paint, hand cut stars. 6 of clubs.

A Brilliant Idea!

I've been lurking here a lot recently (Elise is tres artistic and hysterically funny!) and decided to jack this idea, which was jacked from the art journal challenges posted here. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery or something like that, right?!

Since I'm wary of commitment, I don't think I can do a.card.a.day, but since this artistic idea is new and exciting, I've already done a bunch and I just started 3 days ago! Creativity definitely breeds more creativity!

This art, requiring the small palette of a playing card, is quick and easy to create, if I don't think about it too much. (Ooooh, that hurt!) 52 cards in a deck means 1, one, uno, ichi, card to create per week and I might be able to handle that! I've been recording thots, images, interesting advertising, trying to challenge myself. I can't decide if the face value and suits have any particular meaning, I choose them at random, but Elise notes which card she used and I have to be just like her!!! (I'm feeling too, like I should be clever and write a post using playing card terminology, but I'm way too lazy...)

P.S. The Blogger link is named as such...Skosh(i) means a little bit in Japanese. My sistor, when she was very small, called my cousin's dog LissaBit, for Little Bit (otherwise known as Cinder, haha!)

I dare you to try it! You might like it!!!

Enjoy! : .)
